Douglas White, a failed Democrat congressional candidate, instructed the Mayor to call 911 to browbeat law enforcement into arresting citizens who were collecting signatures on initiative petitions.
Read Douglas’ screed that he posted just before calling her:
No Douglas, the First Amendment is not ambiguous.
And no Douglas, China is a country whose government would be using the military and/or law enforcement to arrest people for exercising their rights.

As she confirms in the story, the Mayor received “a call.”
She got “a call” on a Sunday morning.
After getting “a call”, did the Mayor call Walmart to find out what was happening?
No.
After getting “a call”, did she go to Walmart to investigate the situation herself?
No.
Instead, she dialed 911 after receiving “a call.”
Guess who the call was from?
Her political mentor Douglas Smith.
In the 911 call, she repeatedly emphasized that “this is the Mayor” so she was making the call in her official capacity.
She wasn’t calling as a concerned citizen, but as the Mayor.
And she was doing it because of “a call”.
Her later statement doesn’t match up with her 911 call.
When she called 911, she said nothing about petitioners harassing customers, she was only complaining that law enforcement was refusing to arrest citizens for petitioning in public.
It is a federal felony for anyone (including law enforcement) to interfere with someone exercising their civil rights (which the First Amendment clearly is).
It is a separate federal felony to “conspire” with others (including elected officials) to interfere with citizens exercising their civil rights.
And it’s very clear that that is exactly what the Mayor and Douglas White (her Democrat mentor) are doing together here.
And now we’ve learned that they’re also conspiring with the assistant mayor:
With crime rampant across Washington — hitting an all-time high in shoplifting, shootings, etc) — you’d want and expect elected officials to spend their time trying to interfere with law-breaking, not First Amendment rights being exercised!!

The Mayor of Yakima abused her power when she called 911 to urge law enforcement to arrest citizens for exercising their First Amendment rights. This was a clear abuse of power. I urge the city council to censure the mayor for using her position and power to stop citizens from asking fellow voters to sign petitions and to prevent voters from having the opportunity to sign petitions they want the voters to vote on. 911 is for emergencies — preventing First Amendment activity is not an emergency — and a censure vote will show that no one is above the law, not even the Mayor.
