FIGHTING THE GOVERNMENT’S PROPOSED $2000 PROPERTY TAX INCREASE IN A KIRO TV “NEWS” STORY — EVEN IN A RIGGED SYSTEM, WE MUST FIGHT!

On this Tuesday’s ballot (April 25th) is a $1.25 BILLION PROPERTY TAX INCREASE.

If it was a fair fight, voters would reject it in a heartbeat.

But it’s a rigged system (that’s not an excuse to not fight back, it’s just accepting how things are).

Friday provides a perfect example of this rigged system:

The news media is ALMOST ALWAYS IN FAVOR OF ANY tax increase on the ballot (Why is that? Because it gives reporters a way to suck up to the politicians which gives them access to the inner workings of government that they report on).

On Friday, KIRO TV contacted me to provide the argument against the tax increase.

I sent a text to the reporter beforehand:

“Request / suggestion: can you begin the story with the opposition? Almost all stories bury the opponents at the very end — wouldn’t it be novel to start with the opponents? Please consider it when cropping together the story.”

It was worth a shot.

But not surprisingly, the reporter ignored my request and structured the “news” story like they alway do — starting out with the pro side (pumping them up and highlighting them).

And only after all that, then they show a short clip of opponents saying something buried at the bottom — you can watch Friday’s “news” story here and you’ll see what I mean:

I thought this shirt sent a very positive message so I wore it for the interview:

As I walked down the ramp with the reporter, I tried to make my biggest points.

But I knew that the shirt was already telling the tale.

Regardless of the outcome this Tuesday’s vote, we’e already scored an initial victory because instead of just taking the money from the taxpayers, the politicians were forced to ask our permission at the ballot box.

Prior to our initiative in 2001, state and local governments regularly raised property taxes “the max” (6% EVERY YEAR) and we, the people, had zero say in the matter.

With this massive $1.25 billion property tax increase, our initiative stopped them from just taking it … instead, they have to ask us.

Yes, the pigs at the trough have lots of money.

Yes, the pigs have the media on their side.

But this is a MASSIVE property tax increase at a time when it is completely unaffordable NOW to rent, own, or buy an apartment or condo or home in Washington state. This increase will only make that bad situation worse.

As we pointed out in our voters pamphlet argument, politicians are tricking us: rather than using existing revenue to fund what they said was their top priority, they instead put it on the ballot and are counting on the voters to fall for their trick again.

I hope they don’t.

Because until the voters, especially King County voters, stop voting “yes” for every tax increase, politicians are just going to keep on tricking us by funding their pet projects with existing revenue and counting on us, the taxpayers, to bail them out.

Is it any wonder that Bully Bob Ferguson is trying so hard to impose a lifetime ban on all my future political activity?

I really need your help to survive Bully Bob Ferguson’s litigation and persecution of me and my family.

The only reason we’re still here is thanks to the heartfelt prayers and generous support from friends like you.

Please donate to my legal defense fund today (see below).

Last August, when the AG took my house and drained all my bank accounts (I was allowed to keep $1500), things shifted from REALLY WANTING help to DESPERATELY NEEDING help.

I urge you to help me survive this political persecution by donating to my legal defense fund so that Richard Sanders can get the AG’s ridiculously unconstitutional ruling overturned so this never happens to anyone else.
