The Democrats wanted this REALLY bad!

First of all, they scheduled a hearing on the bill really early in the session so that our side wouldn’t have time to fight back.

We proved them wrong.

First, all of you bombarded them with emails and written testimony against it.

Then at the hearing we showed up IN FORCE — almost 8000 citizens signed in opposed — which was 94% of the total.

They were shell-shocked by that.

They’re used to packing their hearings with the pigs feeding at the trough.

They had no idea the visceral response they were getting from citizens.

Then we hit them with a blizzard of emails over the past few weeks highlighting the facts:

60% of voters passed it.

90% of legislators and Democrat Governor Chris Gregoire reenacted it.

94% of citizens opposed them taking away our 1% property tax cap.

But the Democrats arrogantly moved forward on Tuesday with a vote in committee.

Senate Republicans like John Braun and Lynda Wilson hit them with a bunch of amendments that highlighted the many flaws in the bill.

Nonetheless, after extended debate, the bill barely passed out of committee (by one vote).

All the R’s were opposed, as was Democrat Mark Mullett, and only the other D’s voted for it.

It was then scheduled for a floor vote yesterday afternoon.

In advance of the scheduled vote, that morning, all of you responded in force and pounded all 147 legislators with emails telling them “Don’t hurt us — REJECT SB 5770”

Senate Republicans led by John Braun held a big press conference yesterday morning featuring regular citizens and how devastated they’d be if the bill passed.

GOP chair Jim Walsh called on activists throughout the state to email legislators.

UNDIVIDED’s Brandi Kruse pummeled Democrats for their greed in pushing the bill.

And guess what happened?

The Democrats didn’t bring the bill up for a vote yesterday.

That was HUGE.

Nonetheless, I was holding my breath to see if they’d vote on it today.

And voila, this afternoon, this PHENOMENALLY GOOD NEWS was announced:

27 years of activism has taught me that politicians only see the light when they feel the heat.

Way to go, everyone!
