On Friday, I engaged in civil disobedience at the AG’s Seattle office. Please listen to it and send an email to AG Nick Brown and tell him to stop violating the law (Open Public Meetings Act) by prohibiting citizens from providing public comment at the public hearings of the Domestic Extremism Task Force. Help me stop his censorship.

Fighting for taxpayers for 28 years
When I learned that Attorney General Nick Brown had recently banned citizens from providing public comment at the public hearings of the Domestic Extremism Task Force, I had to do something.

No other government — not the legislature, no county council, no city council, no school board, not even Sound Transit — has ever done that.
So on Friday morning, I drove to the AG’s office in Seattle, parked, and took the elevator to the 20th floor.

When I got there, I sat down in the hearing room where the public hearing was going to be conducted in the AG’s office.
It soon became clear that none of the 27 members of the Domestic Extremism Task Force were going to attend the meeting in person.
Shortly after it started and right after they confirmed they were going to prohibit regular citizens from providing public comment, I got up and sat at their table.

I didn’t go there with any prepared remarks.
I didn’t know how long I’d be able to talk.
I didn’t know if things would escalate and they would forcibly remove me.
I just started talking, addressing my comments to the 27 members on the screen.
During my comments, there were a couple of AG staffers who became more and more uncomfortable with a regular citizen providing a public comment at their public hearing after they had just announced they had banned that.
Click on the image below to listen to it (you certainly don’t have to listen to the whole thing — I talked for over 37 minutes — the first few minutes give you a sense of what I had to say):
If that doesn’t work, click here to listen to it.
Now I need your help.
The only way my peaceful political protest will get Nick Brown to reverse himself and reinstate the right of regular citizens to speak at these hearings is for EVERYONE to send him an email demanding it (your email will also get sent to Nick Brown’s team, to Bob Ferguson because he’s the one who created this governmental monstrosity, and to the 27 members of the Domestic Extremism Task Force). It took me a long time, but I managed to dig up email addresses for all of them.
I’ve made it super easy to send your email.

Message to Attorney General Nick Brown: stop prohibiting regular citizens from giving public comment during public hearings of the Domestic Extremism Task Force
In the body of the email, copy this (or use your own words, tell them how you feel):
Message to Attorney General Nick Brown: stop prohibiting regular citizens from giving public comment during public hearings of the Domestic Extremism Task Force.
I urge you to listen to the very legitimate criticisms and questions that Mr. Eyman asked at Friday’s hearing (here’s a link to it)
Specifically:
* The Charter and the Agenda for November’s public meeting and the Charter and Agenda for January’s public meeting specifically said the AG “welcomes both written and verbal public comments.” And at those 2 public hearings, regular citizens exercised their right to speak and most of those citizens provided verbal comments that were highly critical of the Task Force. Apparently because of that criticism, the Charter and Agenda for the March meeting was changed so that at that meeting and future meetings citizens are now prohibited from speaking.
No other government — not the legislature, no county council, no city council, no school board, not even Sound Transit — has ever done that.
It is a blatant, outrageous violation of the Open Public Meetings Act.
Any change to the founding charter for a governmental entity requires public notice, an opportunity for the citizens to comment on it, and a vote of the members of the governmental body, in this case the 27 members of the task force.
Nick Brown, your decision to censor the citizens was either done unilaterally by you or by a secret vote of the Task Force.
Either is completely unacceptable.
I am deeply offended that you have silenced the voices of the citizens and insulated the members of the Task Force — and the public — from listening to and hearing any words of dissent.

I urge you, Nick Brown, and Bob Ferguson to remove the muzzle you’ve put on the mouths of regular citizens and allow the people — once again — to openly and publicly express their views at future meetings of this stacked, one-sided, insulated, increasingly illegitimate Task Force.
— END —
Thank you for helping me fight this critical battle.

For 28 years, I’ve been fighting for the people of our state and our nation.
Is it any wonder Bully Bob Ferguson is trying so hard to impose a lifetime ban on all my future political activity?

I urge you to help me survive this political persecution by donating to the Tim Eyman Legal Defense Fund so we can get the AG’s ridiculously unconstitutional ruling overturned.
