Join me & testify tomorrow against bad bill that raises property taxes – you can do it in-person, on ZOOM, or in writing. I make it easy – here’s how. I trekked down to Olympia late last week for the pre-session forum where legislators and Inslee were on the defensive because of Jim Walsh’s 6 initiatives.

Today at 1:30 pm I will be testifying against 3 really bad bills in the House. I’ll let you know how that goes.

But more importantly, tomorrow I’ll be in Olympia to testify in person against a really bad bill that makes it easier for governments to raise property taxes (SJR 8207).

If you’re willing to also testify in-person, I invite you to join me. Here are the details on doing it in-person: the hearing is tomorrow (Wed, Jan 10th) in the Cherberg Building. It’s being heard by the Senate Early Learning Committee. It starts at 10:30am.

IN PERSON: to sign up to testify in person, click here and click on SRJ 8207 and click on “I would like to testify in person during the hearing” and fill out the form with your information. Look forward to seeing you down there — I’ll be in the hearing room around 10:15am.

BY ZOOM: to testify by ZOOM, same thing: click here and click on SRJ 8207 and click on “I would like to testify remotely” and then fill out the form with your information — they’ll email you a link that you’ll log onto tomorrow and you’ll testify by ZOOM.

IN WRITING: to provide written testimony, same thing: click here and click on SJR 8207 and click on “I would like to submit written testimony”

EXCELLENT: Hundreds of you sent emails to all 147 legislators yesterday making it very clear that you oppose SJR 8207.

That really helps.

But also, providing testimony through their official process has a huge impact too.

What’s wrong with SJR 8207? Feel free to copy and paste this.

Property taxes are already a tremendous burden on everyone, especially working class families and senior citizens. And that’s the case even with our property tax cap that voters passed in 2001 and the legislature renewed in 2007. SJR 8207 makes it easier for governments to raise property taxes even more. There’s a reason the Constitution requires a 60% vote of the people for bonds — they are often imposed for decades and NOT JUST PROPERTY OWNERS VOTE ON THEM. If they’re going to massively raise property taxes, it needs to be a high bar. And the 60% vote threshold has been in our state Constitution for over a hundred years. There couldn’t be a worse time for SJR 8207.

I urge everyone to join me in testifying against this really bad bill that would hurt a lot of people.

Again, the hearing starts at 10:30am tomorrow (Wed, Jan 10th).

Please make time to provide testimony against it (in person, by ZOOM, or in writing).

Thanks to your prayers, your friendship, your support, I’ve been able to keep fighting.
