MY REPORT: I went to political convention in Spokane. Felt like a family reunion. So many friends, smiles, handshakes, hugs, & high 5’s. Loved it all.

So I trekked over to Spokane for the Republican Party convention.
Had a blast.
I was so happy to reunite with so many friends.
Only a sliver of citizens choose the rough road of the political process and I was surrounded by them over the weekend.
What I posted online is a tasty appetizer:
Here’s a few more of my favorites:
Me with my good friend Anthony Mixer who did an exceptionally good job testifying against a lot of the bad bills we successfully stopped this session.
Me with superstar Matt Marshall who is running unopposed and will be taking the seat of retiring JT Wilcox.
Me and longtime friend and political ally Mike Baumgartner (former state senator, Spokane county treasurer) who is running for Congress (to succeed retiring Cathy McMorris Rodgers) seat.
I dropped by Mike’s booth afterwards:
Take a closer look and you’ll see this:
Back story — we sponsored initiatives in 2003, 2007, 2010, 2012, and 2015 that required a 2/3 vote of the Legislature to raise any tax. Each time the voters passed our 2/3 initiatives, the state supreme court ruled that the 2/3 was a policy question not a legal question and repeatedly allowed the voters’ approval of our 2/3 initiatives to take effect. Those initiatives protected us from a lot of tax increases. Unfortunately, the state supreme court later overturned all their previous rulings and decided that an initiative law couldn’t require a 2/3 vote of the Legislature to raise taxes.
It was maddening.
But that’s when Mike Baumgartner came riding to the rescue. Shortly after that awful ruling, Mike teamed up with Doug Ericksen and together they convinced / cajoled / coerced their colleagues to adopt a rule requiring a 2/3 vote to raise taxes. Mike understood that the Court had no jurisdiction over the rules the Legislature adopted for itself. That 2/3 rule protected us for several extra years from higher taxes. That’s why we awarded Mike our highest honor “Legislator of the Year.” It was his leadership — publicly and behind the scenes — on that all-important battle that made it very easy for me to support him in his run for Congress.
Once again, I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed getting together with so many great people.
Is it any wonder why Bully Bob Ferguson is trying so hard to impose a lifetime ban on all my future political activity?
I urge you to help me fight back against the AG’s abuse of power by donating to the Tim Eyman Legal Defense Fund so that Richard Sanders can get this ridiculously unconstitutional ruling overturned.
