Help me stop them from disrespecting our votes — 8:00 hearing today in Olympia.
Send an email (again) to all 147 legislators that says: “Don’t take away the people’s Right to Vote on Tax Increases. Don’t hide your tax votes. Don’t keep the costs of your tax increases a secret.”
Why do we have Tax Advisory Votes? Because politicians in Olympia declare their tax increases “an emergency” and that makes it impossible to do a binding referendum on them.
So even though the state Constitution guarantees us the right to referendum (collect signatures and force a public vote), they’ve stolen that away from us.
So we, the people, passed I-960 in 2007, and I-1053 in 2010, and I-1185 in 2012, and I-1366 in 2015.
And in every one of those initiatives, it mandated that the citizens have the Right to Vote On Tax Increases with a Tax Advisory Vote.
And look what they’ve done in the past 10 years:
41 tax increases costing taxpayers over $62.3 billion in tax increases.
$62.3 billion.
And why do politicians want to get rid of the People’s Right to Vote on Tax Increases?
Because they say “Not once did we listen to you so letting the people vote and learn about these tax increases is a waste of ballot space and voters pamphlet space.”
Really?
Really!
But what in a Tax Advisory Vote that appears on the ballot and in the voters pamphlet:
1) The cost of the tax increase (calculated by the state’s budget office)
2) How each legislator voted on each tax increase (!!!!)
3) The opportunity for each voter to express their support or opposition to each tax increase.
And in the process, the people get to learn that they’re not alone — they get to learn how other voters feel about what the Legislature did. Because it’s a public vote where all voters get to participate.
I’m ask EVERYONE to send emails to all 147 legislators right now — I’ve made it really easy:

This is really important. I’m super grateful to everyone who helps me with this.
I really need your help to survive Bully Bob Ferguson’s litigation and persecution of me and my family.
Last August, when the AG took my house and drained all my bank accounts (I was allowed to keep $1500), things for me and my family shifted from REALLY WANTING help to DESPERATELY NEEDING help.
I urge you to help me survive this political persecution by donating to my legal defense fund so that Richard Sanders can get the AG’s ridiculously unconstitutional ruling overturned so this never happens to anyone else.
