It was cold, rainy, ugly day in Olympia.

But I was on fire.

Got down there early and testified at a 1:30 pm hearing on 3 property tax increase bills (I’ll share those videos tomorrow).

Those got me warmed up for THE BIGGIE which was the 4pm hearing on SB 5770.

Just as I was getting ready to sit down and give my testimony, super supporter Jeff Pack sent me a text message telling me how many folks signed in:

That is remarkable.

Getting that many is exceedingly rare on any bill being heard in committee.

It took me a second to calculate the percentage:

At Thursday’s hearing in the Senate Ways & Means committee, 7526 citizens signed in opposing SB 5770 — that’s 94%! Our message to legislators is crystal clear: Don’t Take Away the 1% Property Tax Cap. Reject this attack on seniors and working families. Even with the cap, property taxes are still a huge burden.  aking this protection away will make property taxes skyrocket making housing even more unaffordable to homeowners and renters. And this law has always included a safety valve: if governments want a bigger increase, they simply have to get the voters’ permission. The people overwhelmingly passed this and Gov. Gregoire & legislators overwhelmingly passed it too. For 22 years, taxpayers have counted on this protection. Don’t take it away. OPPOSE SB 5770 and any bills like it.
