Rent control has never worked and it never will — I strongly oppose House Bill 1217 and urge all of you to reject it.

Copy & paste this (or write something on your own) into the body of the email — let ’em know how you feel:

REJECT HOUSE BILL 1217 — it would be an epic disaster.

The laws of economics and the laws of supply & demand apply to housing.  

Bills that change the RCW’s cannot suspend these immutable laws.

And giving ‘rent control’ a different name doesn’t change that.  

More importantly, the government does not own these properties – property owners do.  It is theirs. They bought it and they own it.  And the government has no right to interfere with it.  

The government isn’t telling Amazon to cap their prices.  

The government isn’t ordering Microsoft to give away their products for free.  

The government isn’t limiting how much union dues are increased.

You’re only mandating property owners do those things.  

And you need to stop scapegoating and demonizing property owners.  

Rent control has never worked and never will.  

The math doesn’t work.  

Housing will never become more affordable when rent control decreases its’ availability.  

Passing rent control would be an epic disaster. REJECT IT!
