Politicians HATE it when citizens tell them IN PUBLIC that they’re violating their own rules and / or not following WA’s laws or the Constitution.

Whenever the people call them on it, politicians go nuts.

And that’s what happened in Pasco on Monday.

In yesterday’s update, I highlighted the multiple times the mayor and city council were violating their own rules at that meeting.

I mentioned it in my own testimony (click here to watch it).

But 10 minutes before that, I went to the podium in between their 2 “proclamations” to point it out (click on image to listen to it):

The time for public comment is BEFORE any other council business.

That’s their own rule.

They weren’t doing that and so they deserved to be called out on it. 

You can tell the mayor didn’t like that.

When they finally got to the public comment period (50 minutes late!), the mayor read the council’s rules. He said public comment was the time for regular citizens to bring issues to the attention of the council and “it’s not a time for debate” nor a time for back-and-forth, “it’s a time for us to listen to the people”.

“public” comment, not “politician” comment.

But they repeatedly violated that rule, interjecting themselves before and after each citizen provided their comment. 

So when I was finished with my comments and went to sit down, they broke their rule again and started to comment on my comment.

It so infuriated me I went back to the podium to tell them — for the 3rd time — to stop violating their own rules.

Well, that’s when they lost their sh_t.

They’re not used to people telling them IN PUBLIC when they’re wrong. 

But when a citizen does that, politicians squeal like stuck pigs because they know they’re in the wrong and they hate the public learning about it.

Well, that’s certainly happened here.

Thanks to all of you and our efforts together, we’ve put a bright spotlight on Pasco’s politicians and so we’ve succeeded at making it a whole lot tougher for them to raise taxes.
