Help me stop them — Democrats just dropped a new bill that takes away the current property tax cap (58% of voters passed it in 2001 & 89% of legislators passed it in 2007). Senate Bill 5770 TRIPLES property tax increases and takes away the people’s right to vote. Send 2 emails to stop it.

The Democrats KNOW that we, the people, are absolutely opposed to TRIPLING PROPERTY TAX INCREASES.

That’s why they “dropped” this bill at the very end of the legislative session.

It’s not even certain they will hold a public hearing on it.

But here’s your/our chance to tell all 147 legislators “No way to TRIPLING PROPERTY TAX INCREASES with Senate Bill 5770.”

I implore you to send emails to all 147 legislators RIGHT NOW.

Please send 2 separate emails: one to the Senate and one to the House.

1st email, send it to SENATORS: Copy and paste this into the “To:” line:

I am adamantly opposed to the last minute drop of Senate Bill 5770 that would TRIPLE PROPERTY TAX INCREASES. I implore you to not take away the current property tax cap (passed by 58% of voters in 2001 and reenacted and passed by 89% of legislators in 2007 and signed into law by Democrat Governor Chris Gregoire). Even with the cap, it has become unaffordable to rent, purchase, or own a home in Washington state. If this session’s top priority is making housing more affordable, SB 5770 goes in exactly the opposite direction. As Democrat House member Amy Walen admitted: ‘Folks in my district find it very hard to stay in their homes as it is.’ She’s right … but not just in her district. Renters, home buyers, and homeowners are already facing skyrocketing property tax increases EVEN WITH THE CAP. If the state government and any local government wants to raise property taxes above the cap, they are allowed to do so by asking the voters’ permission (like they’re doing right now in King County with Proposition 1, a $1.25 billion property tax increase). Every government — under SB 5770 — could TRIPLE the amount they increase property taxes EVERY YEAR and they’d be able to do so UNILATERALLY without a vote of the people in that jurisdiction. As Republican Senator John Braun said in a statement, this bill ‘would significantly increase the affordability crisis’ in Washington. He’s right too. I strongly urge you to reject SB 5770 and let the current cap stand as it has for the past 2 decades (with the safety valve allowing bigger increases if voters are asked and they vote to authorize it).”

BACKGROUND: The 1% property tax cap was passed by 58% of voters in 2001:

And 89% of legislators re-enacted it and passed it in 2007:

The people of Washington cannot withstand the government’s insatiable tax appetite.

In the past 10 years, the Legislature has raised taxes 41 times costing taxpayers over $62.3 billion.

How can they possibly think we can afford any more?

We’re taxed enough already.

Is it any wonder that Bully Bob Ferguson is trying so hard to impose a lifetime ban on all my future political activity?

I really need your help to survive Bully Bob Ferguson’s litigation and persecution of me and my family.

The only reason we’re still here is thanks to the heartfelt prayers and generous support from friends like you.

Please donate to my legal defense fund today (see below).

Last August, when the AG took my house and drained all my bank accounts (I was allowed to keep $1500), things shifted from REALLY WANTING help to DESPERATELY NEEDING help.

I urge you to help me survive this political persecution by donating to my legal defense fund so that Richard Sanders can get the AG’s ridiculously unconstitutional ruling overturned so this never happens to anyone else.
