We scored a big victory on Thursday.

I wrote about it here: VICTORY: after my testimony yesterday, 6 of 9 Seattle City Council members vote no on income tax.

The councilmember who sponsored this tax was steaming mad after my testimony. It really stuck in her craw. Her pre-vote comments were all about what I had said.

“There’s a lot of misinformation out there so let me address the argument that was presented here that this somehow violates I-2111. That’s just a right wing misinformation talking point, thank you very much. And I’m not gonna get into it any further than that.”

She didn’t want to “get into it” because these are facts:

* Seattle is a “city”
* Her tax is a “tax”
* Her tax would be imposed on “individual persons”
* Investment earnings are a “form of personal income”

Her tax clearly violates this law:

 
After debating it, the Council — by a vote of 6 to 3 — rejected her tax.

It is so satisfying sticking this scalp on my wall. 

She promised to try again when a more liberal councilmember takes office. One publication characterized it this way: 

The City Council Rejected a Capital Gains Tax but in a Few Weeks Everything Will Be Different

It’s true that some things will be different.

But one thing that won’t be different is this state law that makes it illegal for Seattle to impose taxes on anyone’s personal income.

Scoring this victory just before Thanksgiving is especially satisfying.

This certainly explains why Bully Bob Ferguson is trying so hard to impose a lifetime ban on all my future political activity.

With the expert legal assistance of Richard Sanders, I am appealing the AG’s ridiculously unconstitutional ruling because it’s so absurd:

* Lifetime ban on all future political activity?
* I’m no longer a person, I’m forever designated a ‘continuing political committee’?
* $5.5 million?
* Prohibiting me from earning money for the rest of my life?
