Yesterday, I reported that the Whatcom County Council was voting last night on whether or not to put a Lower Property Taxes Initiative on the November ballot.

Several councilmembers wanted to sabotage it.

With only a few hours before the meeting, I asked EVERYONE to send all 7 councilmembers a forceful email.

They got pounded!

Your 100’s of emails REALLY AMPLIFIED my 3 minute testimony.

I received a really nice text from one of the leaders of this local effort: “Thank you!!! Your testimony was spot on – you killed it. Thank you so much for facilitating all those emails – they really helped. Tonight has been awesome.”)

Well, I’m proud to announce that the good guys won! 

Thanks to all of you, the attempt to sabotage the initiative FAILED (the council vote was close … 3 voted for the sabotage and 4 voted against the sabotage).

So the Lower Property Taxes Initiative will be on the November ballot in Whatcom County.

This is a huge victory.

BUT LET ME BE CLEAR: the real heroes of this effort are the local citizens who collected and turned in more than enough signatures to qualify their initiative.

IT’S AN UNPRECEDENTED ACHIEVEMENT — this will be the first countywide initiative in Whatcom County’s history!

The local organization “Washingtonians for a Sound Economy” and its leaders are doing a magnificent job (way-ta-go Ashley!).

Finally, I want to give special thanks to attorney Jackson Maynard with Citizen Action Defense.

His testimony last night was powerful & persuasive. By being there and testifying, it was clear that if they voted to sabotage the initiative, he was ready to pounce — I’m certain his “show of force” had a huge impact too.

Thank you all for helping make this huge victory happen.

Is it any wonder why Bob Ferguson is trying so hard to impose a lifetime ban on all my future political activity?

With the brilliant legal assistance of Richard Sanders, I am appealing the AG’s ridiculously unconstitutional ruling because it’s so absurd:

* I’m no longer a person, I’m forever designated a ‘continuing political committee’?
* $5.5 million?
* Prohibiting me from earning money for the rest of my life?

BONUS: As long as I’m appealing, it’s not a precedent that this AG (or any future AG) can use to target others. And I cannot — I WILL NOT — let that happen.
