PAID PETITIONERS: they are heroes in the battle to qualify Brian Heywood’s Income Tax Repeal Initiative. If you see one in front of a grocery store, thank them, help them, & protect them. Opponents target them because they are effective.

No matter how popular an initiative is — and no doubt the Income Tax Repeal Initiative is super popular — collecting 400,000 voter signatures in 50 days is astronomically difficult.

Assembling an army of unpaid volunteers to get that many signatures in such a short time is nearly impossible.

Why?

Because the folks who support this initiative have burdens the crazies on the left don’t have:

* We work for a living – we have jobs, we run companies

* We go to church, we go to our kids’ sporting events, we have a life

It’s just plain tougher for us to make time for political activism, no matter how committed we are.

And when it comes to petitioning, let’s be honest — very few of us are willing to sit at a table in the hot sun or pouring rain for 8-12 hours a day asking folks to sign a petition.

But paid petitioners do that for us despite constant attacks by:

* Idiot politicians who ignore the 1st Amendment:

Yakima Mayor Deccio calls 911: “Far right wingers” are collecting signatures

* By poorly trained law enforcement officers who actually arrested Bruce Guthrie for peacefully petitioning in a public park:

* By opponents who harass, intimidate, assault, and steal from them.

I was recently at one of Brian Heywood’s SUPER SIGNER events and had the chance to meet and talk with Will, a paid petitioner from Seattle:

He’s on the front lines and willing to put up with an enormous amount of crap to give fellow citizens the chance to sign petitions so we can vote on this critically important initiative.

I thanked him over and over again for putting himself in harms way for all of us.

If you see someone like Will who’s out there collecting signatures, I urge you to:

* Sign the petition (duh!)
* Thank ’em for being out there, shake their hand, give ’em a high 5
* Spend 5 or 10 minutes at their table asking folks walking by to sign
* Ask them if you can get them a bottle of water, a pair of sunglasses, an umbrella, a hamburger, or anything else you can think of that would make their job a little easier.
* Protect them from bullies.

What these heroes are doing is brutally difficult and they deserve our thanks and our protection.

Only with their thankless back-breaking efforts will Brian’s initiative succeed at collecting 400,000 signatures by the July 2nd deadline.

As always, I welcome your feedback.

For 29 years, I’ve been fighting for our state and our nation.

Is it any wonder Bully Bob Ferguson is trying so hard to impose a lifetime ban on all my future political activity?

I urge you to help me survive this political persecution by donating to the Tim Eyman Legal Defense Fund so we can get the AG’s ridiculously unconstitutional ruling overturned.

The only reason I’m still here and I’m still fighting is because of the prayers, love, and support of wonderful friends like you who’ve seen this gross injustice and abuse of power and are willing to help.

I love you all.

Onward!
