So the Democrats in the House and Senate have jammed through a bunch of horrible bills.

Today is the last day of this year’s legislative session.

Us asking them to change what they’re passing is a waste of time.

At this point in the legislative process, the only thing standing in the way of their destructive policies is Bob Ferguson’s veto.

I ask you to send an email to him and his leadership team and urge him to:

VETO all tax hikes (business taxes, gas taxes, and many more).

VETO House Bill 1296 (gutting the Parents Rights Initiative)

VETO House Bill 1217 (rent control has never worked and never will)

I urge EVERYONE to send an email to Bob Ferguson.

Legislators in the House and Senate — especially from your own Party — passed a bunch of horribly destructive bills that will really hurt our citizens and our state.

I urge you to:

 

1) VETO ALL TAX HIKES — yesterday you said, “I will be carefully reviewing the budget after it is adopted by the Legislature.” When you do that, you must know that raising business taxes and gas taxes and all the other litany of taxes — ON TOP OF THE 41 tax hikes passed by Inslee over the past 12 years — will hurt taxpayers with higher gas taxes, hurt customers by increasing the cost to hire or buy products from WA companies, and drive away businesses, deter their expansion, and repel new businesses from coming to or starting up in Washington. We’re taxed enough already and do not want to make Washington even less competitive. VETO all tax hikes.

2) VETO GUTTING PARENTS RIGHTS INITIATIVE — citizens overwhelmingly support Initiative 2081 and last year’s Legislature approved it because they knew the voters were going to overwhelmingly pass it at the ballot box. Our children don’t stop being our children when they’re at school. Parents have the right to know what their children are being taught and when they’re getting medical services. VETO all of House Bill 1296 or at last LINE ITEM VETO section 501 which guts the Parents Rights Initiative.

3) VETO RENT CONTROL — there’s simply no way you’re going to get the 200,000 additional rental units you’ve pledged to get if House Bill 1217 passes. The supply of housing, especially affordable housing, will decrease. Expansion of housing will slow, stop, or go in reverse. Apartment operators will convert their buildings to condos. Rent control has never worked and never will. VETO HB 1217.

I know your own political base of constituents is putting a lot of pressure on you. 

I encourage you to resist them.

The large majority of voters know these horribly destructive bills will hurt our citizens and our state and YOU WILL BE SEEN AS THE ARCHITECT of them if you sign them and YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FALLOUT. I urge you to use your VETO pen and save our state from these arrogant, hurtful, insane bills.
