What’s happening: at this meeting, the Sound Transit Board WILL VOTE on a resolution and a tax increase that “updates” its Sound Transit 3 “plan” to accommodate their $34.5 billion shortfall.

Sound Transit lied to the legislature for the ST3 package: Democrat Transportation chair Judy Clibborn: “I think if you had said, ‘We’re going to bond this and we’re going to ask for $54 billion,’ it would not have gone anywhere. Nobody was going to do that. … Everybody was having this $15 billion in front of them.”

“Sound Transit’s $15 billion tax request reached $54 billion. Legislators say they were misled.”

Sound Transit lied to the voters about the overall cost to taxpayers: “This measure will only cost the average adult $14/month.”

And they blatantly lied to the voters about higher car tab taxes: “Drivers hit with car-tab sticker shock.”

The legislative committee that investigated them came to the obvious conclusion:  

INVESTIGATION REVEALS SOUND TRANSIT USED TRICKERY TO MISLEAD LAWMAKERS, PUBLIC — “It kept key facts from the Legislature and the voters. It displayed disregard for laws designed to ensure full disclosure and prevent public resources from being used for campaigns. Sound Transit has given government at all levels a black eye.”

Yet despite all their conniving machinations and their dishonest extraction of TENS OF BILLIONS OF DOLLARS MORE THAN ANYONE EVER EXPECTED, Sound Transit has dug itself into a $35.4 billion hole.

That is certainly not the taxpayers’ fault.  

NO WAY SHOULD WE REWARD THEM FOR THEIR BLATANT LIES AND GROSS INCOMPETENCE. 

Hope you’ll join me today (in-person or online) to hold Sound Transit accountable for their blatant lies and gross incompetence.

What else can you/we do? 

6 years, pulled over 7 times, never ticketed. Why? Because law enforcement officers recognize the injustice. We voted for a straightforward initiative that made taxes and fees above $30 illegal.
