Fighting for taxpayers for 29 years

Traffic was truly awful getting down to Tumwater yesterday.

But it was totally worth it to be part of history.

I went there to drop off the signatures I gathered:

And I went to celebrate with all the heroic people who made this effort a success and to report back to you on how it went.

Initiatives are hard.

Really hard.

Drafting it, sponsoring it, promoting it, qualifying it, overcoming opponents’ threats, lies, & scare tactics, convincing a majority of voters to pass it, getting through a Democrat-backed court system, and beating back constant efforts by politicians to monkey with it or undermine the initiative process itself.

Despite all that, Brian Heywood embraced that challenge and gave the citizens the opportunity to fight back with his initiative that prohibits state and local governments from imposing any kind of income tax and eliminates Bob Ferguson’s unconstitutional income tax. 

We are beyond blessed to have him leading this worthy battle.

Because he is the only one who had the guts, the motivation, the financial resources, and the proven organizational prowess to qualify this critically important initiative for a public vote in such a short amount of time.

But it’s important to remember that he’s just one guy. 

It took thousands of regular citizens — ALL OF YOU — to put in the time and effort to ask fellow citizens to sign those petitions.

And 511,408 voters, when asked to sign a petition demanding a public vote, took the time to voluntarily put their name, signature, and address on it.

And all that was accomplished in just 51 days!
