AUTHORITARIAN FASCISM: “I’m Bob Ferguson and I order my staff, campus security & 3 State Patrol officers to block Tim Eyman & his people from attending the public bill signing for my Income Tax.”

What is a great illustration of the authoritarian fascism we’re all seeing from Ferguson and the Democrats here in Washington state?

It’s what happened in Olympia yesterday when several regular citizens responded to the Governor’s public invitation on his public website to attend a public bill signing in a public building.

When we arrived and were wearing NO INCOME TAX stickers, Ferguson, his staff, campus police, and the State Patrol went straight to DEFCON 1.

Thank you Bill, Alice, Sherri, & Eric — you are all courageous heroes and I admire and appreciate each of you for standing w/ me yesterday to represent the millions of people in Washington who oppose this injustice.

As you can see on the Governor’s public invitation to “Ladies and Gentlemen” (which the 5 of us are), the bill signing was scheduled to start at 10am.

But to secure our spots in line, we arrived at 9am inside that public building (the Capitol).

We were first in line and stood right outside the public room where this public event would be held:

First thing I did was walk up to each State Patrol Officer and campus security person, shook hands, introduced myself, and assured them we were there to protest the bill signing but would do so peacefully and not disrupt it.

All was well.

But when the governor’s staff, backed by burly campus security, ORDERED us to “step back” and let the supporters of the Income Tax go ahead of us (they lied to us, saying “If there’s room, we may be able to find a place for you”), we respectfully and peacefully declined, pointing out that we were there first and that it was a public bill signing in a public building.

Then things escalated, culminating in them standing in the doorway preventing me and Eric and Sherri and Bill and Alice from entering. And their story changed to a new lie:

“This is only for those who were invited and you weren’t.”

Sherri was blocked from entering but reported on it on Facebook:

Eric was also prevented from entering and here’s his post on it:

What I found especially interesting was the more hysterical they got, the calmer I got.

And the calmer I got, their hysteria escalated.

Ferguson’s communication director got right in my face and said,

“If you would have called me, I could have saved you the trip because you weren’t invited.”

Obvious legal factoid: if a public space is “reserved” for an event, the “reserver” is legally and constitutionally prohibited from interfering with or preventing peaceful First Amendment activity within that public space.

2 years ago, I wrote about regular citizen Bruce Guthrie who was arrested for collecting voter signatures in a portion of a public park that was “reserved” by the Edmonds Arts Festival (read about that here).

I am so proud of him for holding them accountable: he recently filed suit in federal court (you can read it here) against the city of Edmonds, their police department, and the Edmonds Arts Festival.

Because it’s in FEDERAL court (and not in our corrupt state court), he’s gonna win — BIG!

Anyway, back to yesterday.

Why would Bob Ferguson — the most powerful politician in state government — order his staff, campus security, and 3 State Patrol officers to block me and a handful of opponents from attending the public bill signing for their Income Tax?

Because he was AFRAID, TERRIFIED in fact, that the bill signing photo would show that the Democrats’ carefully concocted illusion that the people support their Income Tax is a LIE.

That there was DISSENT.

That’s probably the main reason.

But he also did it because Bob Ferguson is small, insecure, and petty.

Me standing behind him last year was HUMILIATING to him.

He was unnerved, shaken, and discombobulated.

His voice shook and he was clearly embarrassed by it.

But since I was calm and respectful throughout, he knew there was nothing he could do about it.

That was then.

But this time, he was going to do everything possible — including violating the Washington state Constitution and the United States Constitution — to ensure that SUPERSTAR PODCASTER Brandi Kruse wouldn’t have the chance to do something like this again:

And he had one other reason: me being there would be another in-his-face reminder that he failed to do what his lawsuit was intended to do: to kill us off, to get us to quit, to stop us from continuing to fight back.

Thanks to all of you and your prayers and support, he’s a failure when it comes to that.

With the Income Tax and the legislative process, they didn’t let the rules …

… the law …

… or the Constitution …

… stop them from winning this part of the battle.

BUT WE, THE PEOPLE, WILL WIN THE WAR.

More on this in the coming days.

For 29 years, I’ve been fighting for the people of our state and our nation.

I urge you to help me fight back against Bob Ferguson’s abuse of power by donating to the Tim Eyman Legal Defense Fund so Richard Sanders and the Pacific Legal Foundation can get the AG’s ridiculously unconstitutional ruling overturned.
